www.newsindiatimes.com – that’s all you need to know Vinay Wins Gold At Para Powerlifting World Championships 2025 I ndia’s rising para powerlifting star Vinay hasbrought glory to the nation by winning the Gold Medal in the 72kg Junior Category at the Para PowerliftingWorld Championships (PWC) 2025 held in Cairo, Egypt, on day 2 of the Championship, as per a release from PWC. Vinay recorded an impressive series of 137kg, 142kg and 147kg in his threeattempts. His final lift of 147kg was ruled invalid by the referees, but his second successful lift of 142kg was enough to secure the Gold Medal, narrowly defeating Mikolaj Kociubinski of Poland, who lifted 141kg. The Bronze Medal was claimed by Se- bastian F. of Ecuador with 137Kg. This marks Vinay’s second major international tri- umph – earlier, he clinched Gold at the Para Powerlifting World Cup 2024 in Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, competing in the 59kg Junior Category with a lift of 120kg. Hailing from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, Vinay’s jour- ney is one of courage and determination. Born into a poor family, his father works as a daily wager. Vinay’s life changed when Mr J.P. Singh, Coach of the Indian Para Powerlifting Team, discovered his talent at a state-level meet. Under Mr Singh’s mentorship, Vinay transformed his potential into world-class performance. This Gold Medal not only brings immense pride to In- dia but also strengthens Vinay’s position on the qualifica- tion pathway for the Los Angeles Paralympics 2028. After winning the Gold, elated Vinay said, “This medal is not just mine – it belongs to every person who believed in me when I had nothing. From Gorakhpur’s small streets to the world stage in Cairo, this journey was not easy. I thank Indian team coach Mr. Jitender Pal Singh, Mr. Rajinder Singh Rahelu and Nitn Arya Sir who saw potential in me when no one else did. Jaiswal hit 22 fours in his fifth 150-plus score in tests to show why he is one of the world’s most exciting batsmen. India captain Shubman Gill was batting on 20 at stumps and would be pleased at how his batters vindi- cated his decision to bat first in the bid to secure a 2-0 series sweep. “We all know that he (Jaiswal) is very aggressive and he likes to score runs quickly,” India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said of how the opener paced his knock. “Even after being not so aggressive, he’s still batting on 173. That shows how good he’s batted ... I think he was brilliant today.” It was the first time Gill had won the toss since taking over as India test captain earlier this year. KL Rahul (38) survived a close lbw appeal but Jaiswal was rock solid during their opening stand of 58. Touring captain Roston Chase opted for spin from both ends and harnessed Jomel Warrican with Khary Pierre. Warrican lured Rahul out of the crease with his third delivery and spun it past the bat. Questions have been raised about whether B Sai Sud- harsan has what it takes to succeed in the crucial number three slot but the left-hander responded in style with a fluent 87. West Indies did not help their cause either by dropping Sudharsan when the batter was on 58. Sudharsan offered a leading edge towards short mid- wicket whereWarrican dived to his right but the ball jumped out of his cupped hands leaving bowler Justin Greaves crouching mid-pitch with his head in his hands. Sudharsan looked primed for a maiden test hundred butWarrican dismissed him lbw to end the batter’s 193- run partnership with Jaiswal. Sudharsan reviewed the decision but could not get it overturned and left after hitting 12 fours in his second half-century in eight innings.
