ASTROLOGY E-mail: psharma@premastrologer.com Contact No -01147033152/40532026 This week for you TRAVEL Avoid These 8 Foreign Currency Mistakes To Save Money When Traveling U se a debit card for withdraw- als Always use your debit card, never your credit card - unless you have no other options. When you use a credit card to procure foreign money, the company will treat the withdrawal as a cash advance and charge you a transaction fee (often a flat fee in the $5 range) plus interest on your state- ment balance. To minimize interest charges, Dunn recommends paying off your credit card, including the amount of the withdrawal, before activating a cash advance. Extra tips: If you are traveling to mul- tiple countries with different currencies, Opdyke recommends a Revolut orWise debit card. “You can load dollars onto the cards directly from your U.S. bank account and convert into like 100-plus currencies directly in the app on your phone and at very fair interbank rates,” he said. “Then when you’re in whatever country, you can walk up to any ATM… and the ATM is go- ing to treat you like a local.” My experience: One of my primary rea- sons for avoiding foreign ATMs is because my identity and personal bank informa- tion have been stolen multiple times. For peace of mind, I plan to open a checking account with limited funds that I will use only for out-of-country withdrawals. Choose the local currency The ATM will ask you how you’d like to be charged, in the local currency or U.S. dollars. To receive the more generous interbank rate, always pick the former. Dunn warns that the bank might play mind games - “Are you sure you want to decline USD?” - but don’t fall for it. “If you choose to pay in dollars, or if you accept the conversion, you are allow- ing the merchant you’re dealing with to set the exchange rate, and some of those can be usurious,” Opdyke said. Extra tips: Paying in the local currency applies to all transactions, including credit card purchases on meals, hotels, shopping and attractions. My experience: I took so much time pondering the currency button - I didn’t want to screw it up - the machine grew impatient and decided for me. I sincerely hope it chose correctly. Spend all your cash before heading home U.S. bank accounts do not accept for- eign cash, so spend it while you can. If you have a lot of leftover money, you can exchange it back to U.S. dollars before you leave or at your home bank, though you may lose some money in the conversion. Extra tips: Dunn will calculate her cash expenditures and withdraw only as much as she can realistically use. My experience: I hang onto foreign currencies for future trips or give the money as a going-away gift to friends planning to visit that country. I have also exchanged one foreign currency for an- other while traveling, fulling recognizing that I did not receive the face value for the amount - a small price to pay to tidy up my wallet. Frequently Asked Questions Can I file my own O-1 petition without an employer? Not directly as an indi- vidual, but a legal entity you own, such as a corporation or LLC, can file on your behalf as long as it has a genuine man- agement structure in place. How long can someone stay on O-1 status overall? There’s no fixed maxi- mum. As long as the person continues qualifying extensions with new activities or projects, the status can be renewed indefinitely. Can an O-3 dependent work in the United States? No. O-3 status allows study but does not come with employ- ment authorization. Does pursuing a green card affect O-1 status? No. O-1 carries dual intent, so filing for permanent residency doesn’t jeopardize the ability to maintain or extend O-1 status. What’s the most common reason O-1A cases get an RFE? Submitting evidence that technically checks the regulatory boxes without tying it together into a clear case for sustained national or inter- national acclaim. A strong petition letter connects each piece of evidence to why it matters.
