Some 2,977 people were killed, among them 58 individuals of Indian descent, tracing their ancestry mostly to India but with a sprinkling from the Caribbean, a few were of other South Asian heritage. A significant number are youth in their twenties and thirties, and two companies Cantor Fitzgerald and Marsh McLennan lost several of their staff. Most of the Indian- origin individuals killed were at theWorld Trade Center, but a couple of them died at the Pen- tagon and on American Airlines Flight 11.
