www.newsindiatimes.com – that’s all you need to know News India Times (September 12, 2026 - September 18, 2026) September 18, 2026 8 Community US Philanthropy Circle To Hold Charity Golf Classic Supporting Education In Rural India U S Philanthropy Circle will host its inaugural Hope Through Education Charity Golf Clas- sic & Gala on Sept. 21 at Panther Valley Golf & Country Club in Hackettstown, with proceeds benefiting education programs operated by the Round- glass Foundation in rural Punjab, India. Organizers expect the event to attract 80 to 100 golfers, along with family members and guests for an evening gala. The program will include a golf tournament, activi- ties for nongolfers, a cocktail reception, dinner, awards presentation and silent auction. Net proceeds will support Roundglass Foundation’s Learn Labs program, a network of after-school, commu- nity-based learning hubs located in village schools and community centers across rural Punjab. The program serves children ages 6 to 14 and combines digital learn- ing, self-directed inquiry and project-based activities tied to real issues in local communities. Children participate in an interactive learning session at a Roundglass Foundation Learn Lab, where activities are designed to encourage engagement, confidence and collaborative learning. The Learn Labs curriculum focuses on four areas: foundational literacy in Punjabi and Hindi, conversation- al English, real-world problem-solving and daily well-be- ing practices such as yoga and mindfulness. The program is designed to help younger children improve reading skills and confidence, while older students develop digital fluency, teamwork, public speaking and leadership skills. “This event grew out of a simple idea — bringing our community together around something we all care deeply about: giving children in India the tools and op- portunity to build a better future,” said Ranjesh K. Navin Nanda, Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Cardio- vascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Bir- mingham, Alabama, was recently celebrated by the Society for Cardiovascu- lar Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), a national organization as “one of the true legends in Cardiology.” Dr. Nanda’s group had developed and pioneered, among many other contribu- tions, the clinical technique of real time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography which is widely used during structural heart interventions in the Catheterization Laboratory. The President of SCAI also declared that Dr. Nanda had “transformed the field of echocardiography and cardiovascular imaging,” adding that his “pioneering contributions, unwavering commitment to teaching, and lifelong dedication to advancing patient care continue to inspire generations of physicians worldwide.” This is just the latest of many accolades and awards Dr. Nanda has received over his career. Some other past accomplishments, honors and awards are listed below. Dr. Nanda is President, International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound (ISCU); Founding President and Chair, Board of Directors of the American As- sociation of Cardiologists of Indian Origin (AACIO) as well as original incorporator and Past President of the American As- sociation of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI). He is considered the “Father of Echo- cardiography/Modern Echocardiogra- phy” by many prestigious organizations throughout the world and also some countries for pioneering work in cardiolo- gy and echocardiography including adult, pediatric and fetal echocardiography. Several Echo Labs/Institutions have been named after him in India and Philip- pines. In addition, he is recognized by the In- dian Rhythm Society and French Ministry of Cultural Affairs for pioneering contri- butions in electrophysiology including the first person in the world to image cardiac pacemaker leads by echocardiog- raphy. Dr. Nanda has received the US “Ellis Island Award” (Highest civilian honor for immigrants); The American College of Cardiology has renamed its Distinguished Award as ‘Navin C. Nanda International Service Award,” in perpetuity, in his honor, the first for a foreign born Indian physi- cian. He has received the Lifetime Service Award from the American Society of Echo- cardiography; a gold medal from the Lipid Association of India for pioneering work in atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease and prediabetes in India and Indian Dias- pora in the United States. Dr. Nanda has been featured in more than 1,000 publications, over 550 original; he has 17 books including the largest / most comprehensive textbook on Echo- cardiography, to his credit.
